setres800x600.vbs - Set Resolution to 800x600

From a suggestion by Bert Kinney, MS MVP

This script will modify your Win98 Registry so that upon the next boot up, it will come up with the display in 800x600 mode. Now, I know, you're saying that you can do that by right clicking on the right clicking on the desktop to get the Display applet. But on occasion, users experimenting with the Appearances tab have set the Scheme to Windows Standard (EXTRA LARGE). This has had the effect of making some of the controls on the Display applet inaccessible for adjustment! Usually this happens to those who have their monitor set to 640x480. This file is known to work on Win98, but may not automatically reboot the computer when finished. If you try this on a Win95 machine, let me know if it does or does not reboot the machine. Your antivirus software may report this script as potentially malicious, or a possible virus. This is because the script writes to the System Registry.

To use: Download the setres800x600.vbs file and save it to your hard drive. Double-click the setres800x600.vbs file. It will set your registry, then prompt you to reboot. Since it may be difficult to locate this file if you've managed to set things too large, you may also elect to Open or Run this file instead of saving it to your hard drive.  This script can be viewed in Notepad or any text editor, as to the specific Registry key and value that are updated.
