Doug's XP MCE 2005 - Share Recorded TV Copyright 2006 - Doug Knox This utility will allow you to: 1) Make your Shared folders that contain Recorded TV content (DVR-MS files) available to other Media Center 2005 PC's. 2) Change the path for Recorded TV. This is where your actual recorded shows are stored. (local folders only) 3) Specify the temporary folder used for Recorded TV recording. 3) Change the folders that are "Watched" for Recorded TV content. This setting can include shares on other Media Center PC's on your network. NOTES: 1) You cannot manually enter a path in the Recorded TV Folder or Temporary Recording Folder text boxes. This is by design. 2) Only folders that are currently shared on the Local PC will appear in the Sharing Recorded TV tab. 3) For "Watched Folders", if you specify a folder on another machine on your network, you must run this utility on that computer and enable the setting for "Allow other Media Center PC's to access your Recorded TV content." SECURITY: 1) This utility allows Media Center 2005 PC's to share their Recorded TV content by setting the "everyoneincludesanonymous" value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa and by adding the shared folders you specify to the NullSessionShares value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters. If your computer is behind a hardware firewall, such as a router, this shouldn't be an issue. If you're not behind a hardware firewall, this could create a security hole. You should use a software firewall and configure it to allow the necessary ports for File and Print Sharing, and restrict access to computer's on your own LAN. UNINSTALL: 1) This program can be removed from Add/Remove Programs KNOWN ISSUES: 1) The "Watched Folders" selection does not work with mapped drives. You must use the UNC path for shared folders on another computer. 2) After you reboot the Local computer, and open Media Center, the Recorded TV listing may take a while to populate, as Media Center scans any shared folders on other computers. This is normal. 3) If you're accessing Recorded TV content on another Media Center PC, and that content was "copy protected", you will probably not be able to watch it. This is due to the restrictions of DRM (Digital Rights Management). FEEDBACK: 1) Use the Help, Feedback menu item to send feedback about this utility.
