MN-500 Wireless Base Station - Setup
This section not intended to be a tutorial on setting up or configuring the MN-500 Base Station. It is simply an overview of the features that can be user configured. Additional features can/will be added via firmware upgrades. Once you've logged into the router, you'll see the following configuration areas (as of firmware release 1.08).
Home
WAN Information: First, the Home screen displays information about your WAN (Wide Area Network) settings. This information is what's needed for your Base Station to talk to the Internet. It includes your base station's IP address, Subnet mask, Default Gateway and the DNS server information. You can also release and renew the base station's IP address from this screen, if needed.
LAN Information: Next is the information about your LAN (Local Area Network) settings. The information here pertains to the connection to the rest of your LAN, and the computers that are connected to the base station, either wired or wirelessly. You'll see the base station's IP address, the LAN subnet mask, whether or not the base station is serving as a DHCP server (providing IP address for your LAN) and whether the built in firewall is enabled or not. You'll also see what computers are connected to your base station, and what IP addresses they've been assigned.
Base Station Information: The last section on the Home screen is about the base station itself. This information includes the firmware version, the boot code version, The LAN MAC address for the base station (as your LAN sees it), the MAC address that the Internet sees and the serial number of the base station.
Management
In this section you can set the base station's time, backup and restore your settings, upgrade the router's firmware, change the password to access base station and perform a soft "reset" of the base station. You can also set the base station to synchronize its time with one of a number of Internet Time Servers.
Local Area Network
In this section, you can set the LAN IP address of the base station, enable or disable the DHCP server function (whether or not the base station provides IP addresses to the rest of your LAN), the address range for IP addresses that will be assigned by DHCP, how long an IP address lease is good for and set the Domain or Workgroup name.
Wide Area Network
In the Wide Area Network section you can set your connection type (Dynamic, Static or PPPoE. You can even disable the base station's Internet connection completely. You can also specify various information that may be required by your ISP such as Host name and the MAC address. You can even "clone" an existing MAC address, which can save you a call to your ISP's tech support to have the MAC address in their records changed. You can also set the base station to obtain the DNS server information from your ISP, or enter it manually.
Wireless
The options in the Wireless section include enabling or disabling wireless access to the base station, enable/disable broadcasting of the SSID (Service Set Identifier), wireless channel number, data rate negotiation and the SSID name.
Security
In the Security section, you'll find the Wireless Security, Network Mode, Firewall, Port forwarding, Virtual DMZ (de-militarized zone), MAC and Client Filtering and Base Station Log settings.
