xp_save settings.vbs - Allow User Settings To Be Saved
Doug Knox - 4/10/2002

THIS SCRIPT DOES NOT APPLY TO DISPLAY RESOLUTION SETTINGS

Note:  This fix is preliminary, and has not been tested on a wide range of machines.  The script will not cause any harm, but it may not correct your problem.  Feedback as to the effectiveness of this script would be appreciated.  This VB Script will create the Registry value NoSaveSettings in the following Registry key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

and set the value to 0.  This has the effect of "disabling" the policy that doesn't allow user settings to be saved.

To use: Download the xp_save_settings.vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double-click the xp_save_settings.vbs file.  You will be prompted when the repairs have been completed.  You will need to log off/log on for the change to take effect.  This script can be viewed in Notepad or any text editor, as to the specific Registry key and value that are updated.
