XP_QuickRes.exe System Tray Utility to Change Screen Resolution
Doug Knox - 8/30/2003

Version 2.0.5 - This small Visual Basic 6 utility will put an icon in your System Tray and allow you to select one of seven preset resolution settings and six preset refresh rates (60, 70, 72, 75, 85 and 100, as long as your monitor supports them).  Changing of the color depth is not supported in this release.  For you gamers, 640x480 is on the list, as well!  Some resolution/refresh rates may not be available, due to your current color depth settings.  Simply right click on the icon in the System Tray to access the features.

WARNING:  If you have your Display Settings set to show modes that your monitor cannot support (Display Properties, Settings, Advanced, Monitor tab), this utility cannot accurately determine if your monitor supports all of the resolution/refresh rate combinations.  All of the preset values will be shown, and these may not be compatible with your monitor!

To use: Download the xp_quickres.zip file and save it to your hard drive (you may want to right click and use Save Target As). Open the ZIP file you just downloaded and extract the contents to your hard disk.  Create a shortcut to the xp_quickres.exe file to run it at logon or system startup.

This utility works with Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000.  The Visual Basic 6 Runtimes are required for Windows 2000. They're included with Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.

Some systems will report that a needed DLL is missing.  If you encounter this error, download the DLL here, and extract it to the Windows\System32 folder.  Then click Start, Run and enter:

REGSVR32  MSSTDFMT.DLL

to register the DLL.
